Did you know that you can be considered a local guide in Google maps when you contribute information on their application.

They have a point system in place that gives you badges according to what you have contributed so far.

So far I only have very few badges and other contributions but I'm already considered a Local Guide based on their point rankings.

Leveling up your Local Guide ranking/badge actually becomes harder and harder the higher you go up. For example, in order to go from level 4 to level 5 you'll need twice your current points, then going from level 5 to level 6 will require thrice the level 5 points.

Further information says that getting higher up in the rankings will give you perks, although it doesn't say specifically what perk/s you'll receive.

Anyway, I think it's a pretty cool feature that encourages helping each other out by providing information to the app.
