Depth of Field Study in Photography with my Fujifilm & Gundams
I am trying to see the differences between my kit lens' focal available focal lengths. It has marks on 16mm, 23mm, 35mm, and 50mm. I asked my favorite subject to help me with this study. It's a good thing Banshee Norn and RX-78-2 weren't too busy tonight.
The photograph you're seeing above was capture at minimum zoom which is at 16mm focal length. I used manual focus to get the shot. My ISO was set to 200 and my Aperture was at 4.0. Also, Shutter Speed was at 2.5.
As you can see on the photo above, the shorter focal length made the near objetcs even nearer and the far objects farther, they stretch away from the depth of field of my shot.
That next photo was snapped at 35mm focal length on my kit lens. Aperture is set to minimum of 5.0. ISO was at 200. Still on manual focus on this one here.
As you've noticed, this shot set up did not distort my subjects that much. Gun is nearer to the Banshee Norn to contact, and RX-78-2 looks nearer to Norn as well.
Next photograph was shot at 50mm. Aperture at 5.6 and ISO at 200. Shutter was still at 2.5. RX-78-2 actually looks bigger in this photo. The distortion became less when I used higher focal lengths.
All of the photos above were captured and post-processed on the Windows photo app on my laptop. The usual edits I did are as follows:
- Lightens the shadows and made the highlights darker.
- Updated saturation.
- Lessens contrast, then pumps up brightness functions.
- Made it warmer.
- Added a cooler tint.
- Increased saturation for blues and gold colors.
What focal length do you use or have (if you have a prime lens)?
