Double Exposure Photography

In photography and cinematography, multiple exposure is the superimposition of two or more exposures to create a single image, & double exposure has a corresponding meaning in respect of two images. - Wiki

Double exposure is basically 2 images fused together into 1 final image. Taking into consideration the properties of both images and aligning them and applying a "blend mode" onto the 2nd image to dictate how it will effect the image at the bottom or how it will adapt to the properties of the image at the bottom.

In photoshop there are different option for blend modes, ranging from Darken to Multiply to Screen to Saturation to etc.

In the first image of this blog post, I've shown you a collage of the steps I underwent to create a double exposure effect of my son's photograph.

Here, you're looking at the unedited RAW image shot from my Fujifilm X-T20 camera converted into a more readable JPEG file:

I made some changes onto a few things like highlights, contrast, exposure, etc by using a circular filter inside Photoshop's camera raw filter which allows me to add edits on a certain part of a photo I chose:

Other edits I made (which is not captured in the photos here, sorry) are to darken the background (using the brush tool) and remove the wires from the light he is holding (using the healing tool).

Now, here's a photograph I also took which I will use to create the double exposure effect for this photograph. These are 'bokeh' shots of fairy lights I bought. You can see this image used in my previous blogs as well.

I applied a Screen blend mode onto this image so that it will not show the dark parts of it and will only let the 'bokeh lights' appear. I had to erase a few light cause it was blocking Zion's face. Lastly, I added my watermark on the final image which you can see here:

That's it for this blog post, I hope you liked what I did on the photograph.
