Photography: I See Ghosts! (Long-exposure)

DEVS1208.gif

The animated photograph above is made up of 4 consecutive long exposure shots made into a looping GIF image. Here are the settings of the shots:

  • Shutter Speed at 1 second
  • ISO at 200
  • Aperture at f18

The frames were shot consecutively in manual mode (means I pressed the shutter 4 times to get a shot), I was not able to set up the interval shooting because I haven't tried that function yet. If I used it, I would be able to get a more fine animation with less differences on the frames.

I had to use Photoshop to manually align all 4 images and crop the sides because they're already misaligned. Here are all the frames used:

First frame.

DEVS1208.JPG
Second frame.

DEVS1209.JPG
Third frame.

DEVS1210.JPG
Fourth frame.

Here's how I made the animation in Photoshop (which frame and how long it'll show up):

  • First frame 0.1 second
  • Second frame 0.1 second
  • Third frame 0.1 second
  • Fourth frame 0.1 second
  • Third frame 0.1 second
  • Second frame 0.1 second
  • First frame no delay
  • Second frame no delay
  • Third frame no delay
  • Fourth frame no delay
  • Third frame no delay
  • Second frame no delay
  • First frame 0.2 second
  • Second frame 0.2 second
  • Third frame 0.2 second
  • Fourth frame 0.2 second
  • Third frame 0.2 second
  • Second frame 0.2 second
  • Repeat

All frames are unedited (except for adding the watermark). I also took another set of photos. Basically, the same scene and style but there's different people photographed here. Different ghosts!

Same thing as the first photo, I'll share the frames here too (sorry for the 'repetitive' photos, I assure you they're not the same photos, just looks like they are lol):

Second frame.

DEVS1206.JPG
Third frame.

Here's how I made the animation in Photoshop (which frame and how long it'll show up):

  • First frame no delay
  • Second frame no delay
  • Third frame no delay
  • Second frame no delay
  • First frame 0.1 second
  • Second frame 0.1 second
  • Third frame 0.1 second
  • Second frame 0.1 second
  • First frame 0.2 second
  • Second frame 0.2 second
  • Third frame 0.2 second
  • Second frame 0.2 second
  • Repeat

How did I do? Hopefully you liked the finished animated photographs. Which one is better though, the first or the second? Leave a comment below!
