Photography with Acros: Photos with Film Simulation - A Different Taste of Monochrome

DEVS0733.JPG

First off, what is Acros? You can read this page from Fujifilm for an in-depth article: The Newest Film Simulation "ACROS". To keep it short, Acros is a digital rendition of an actual film that was used years ago. It was described as 'world's finest grain'.

The images created with Acros has distinguishable characteristics compared to the normal B&W (Monochrome) images. The details stand out, and therefore the image appears clean and sharp but with the same controls as Monochrome. It makes use of grain on images to produce an important texture on them.

All images inside this post were taken using my Fujifilm X-T20 mirrorless camera using the XF 18-55mm kit lens in RAW format. Editing has been done in Photoshop CC. The only edits made were turning the Film Simulation to Acros or Acros with filters (originally shot in different Film Simulations but since I captured them in RAW format - loss of detail and compression was minimized/prevented) and adding my watermark in.

These images were all captured in Resort's World's Newport Mall last night (except first photo with title in it which was capture while passing through McKinley West in Taguig). The mall is developed by Megaworld and still had Chinese New Year decoration all over the place.

The main entrance was littered with Chinese lanterns on the ceiling and had Lucky Trees around (big and small).

The small ones would usually have money envelopes on them and small oranges (called Kiat Kiat). I don't know if those fruits were real - didn't have a closer look. The big ones look like Cherry Blossoms with all kinds of Chinese ornaments hung on them.

Above photo was shot after the main entrance, this is the mirror architectural design place on top of a water fountain, you can clearly see the fountain being reflected on it. It was a beautiful display.

Here's a shot of the main entrance from one side, this fountain is in between the entrance, the casino, and 2 hallways heading to opposite wings of the mall.

We went through one of the hallway to go upstairs, the escalator was pictured here. Most of the floor in this level has been carpeted which is a pretty nice and premium touch to the design. Most stalls are lines with mirrors or shiny metallic surfaces that acted as mirrors (also shown in this shot).

The 2nd floor had a big space in the middle of restaurants and above it is clear space. There were still lots of Chinese New Year decors in here like money trees, there was even one which was all lit up in purple but it's not included in this post.

The structures on the side mimic those of real buildings complete with walls, balconies, and windows. There are even hanging plants on some and on one side there's a big clock.

DEVS0811.JPG

On one of the far side of this level is a tunnel lined with decorations of flowers and lights which are very pleasing to the eye. This post will actually serve as part 1 and I will add more photos and information about this hallway on the next part.

Here are some photos I captured while passing through that hallway - the ones decorated with lights and flowers looks liked a tunnel and it was really beautiful. I had many photos of it and even a video.

Acros is clearly an awesome Film Simulation to use in most photos but it won't do justice to the beauty and color of all these flowers and lights. I will be making another post showing all these photos in an edited colored version.

There are more photos in stored connected to this post and I will be posting them soon. For now, please do comment if you've enjoyed this showcase of Acros photographs. Do stay tuned for my next post so that you'd know the difference between these photos and their colored counterparts. I hope you'd like them as much as you have liked these.
