Capturing Street

Street photography, is also sometimes called candid photography, it is a kind of photography conducted for art or inquiry that features unmediated chance encounters and random incidents within public spaces. - Wiki

Framing and timing can be key aspects of the craft with the aim of some street photography being to create images at a decisive or poignant moment.

Street photography is one of the hardest style for photographers to master. There are lots of difficulties to encounter.

The most challenging part of street photography is finding the right place and the right people for your subject. There are times when you have the right place and setting but there aren't any good human interaction on your photos. There are times you caught great human subjects but the place they are in doesn't seem right for the ideas in your head. Making it hard to produce a beautiful photograph.

I haven't tried out much street photography, mainly because my lens is too bulky for it. Most people don't like being photographed from out of the blue.

There are 2 techniques for this issue: hide your gear or capture from afar. Hiding your gear would require a slimmer lens, those are called pancake lenses (because they're flatter than most lenses). Capturing from afar needs telephoto lenses, around 100mm or more in focal length.

The advantage with a thinner pancake lens is that you can get more details out from your subject/scene. Whereas on telephoto lenses, you'll have to frame your subject from afar which can be difficult because you won't have much control of the surroundings and your angles.

However, hiding your gear may mean that you're shooting randomly and your shots may be out of focus sometimes if you don't know the techniques to set it properly before taking a shot.

All photos in this blog was capture with my Fujifilm X-T20 mirrorless camera with an XF 18-55mm Fujinon lens.

As of the moment, I do not have the proper gear for shooting street photography. All I have as of the moment are my kit lenses, which are zooms so they're around 3-4 inches long, or 5-6 inches when zoomed in at full. It will be pretty hard to hide them and the maximum focal lengths are too short to capture things from distances unnoticeable by the subjects.

By the way, check out this article for some great Pinoy street photographers I found: Filipino Street Photographers on Instagram.
